It’s spooky season at TONI&GUY and we’re celebrating by bringing you a new decade inspired look EVERY week! Each week we’ll highlight a new hair & makeup look inspired by the 1920’s, 50’s, 60’s, 80’s and 90’s. So grab your flapper dress and join Cosmetic Director, Anjanette Henson, as she demonstrates how you can get the perfect 1920’s glam!
STEP 1: BLOCK YOUR BROWS
Begin by preparing your brows and cleaning them of any foundation, oil, or debri. Using a glue stick, begin applying the glue to your brows and brush them upward with a spooly brush. Allow the glue to dry and reapply as needed.
STEP 2: COLOR CORRECT YOUR BROWS
To cancel out the color of her brows, Anjanentte uses an orange color corrector to cast out the gray color from her brows. The corrector will help create a more natural look when re-drawing your brows. Continue to re-apply the color corrector as needed.
STEP 3: APPLY FOUNDATION & POWDER TO THE BROWS & FACE
Using a stippling brush, stipple foundation over your brows. Avoid a back and forth motion, this will prevent the disruption of the glue and corrector. Apply as many layers of foundation as needed to completely cover your brows. Once the foundation is applied, begin to set your browswith a translucent powder. Complete this step by applying a full coverage foundation to the rest of the face.
STEP 4: DRAWING YOUR BROW
Using a flat angled brush and a dark eyeshadow, start drawing your new brows. Follow the natural shape of your brows and work from the inner corner to the outer corner, extending the line past the corner of the eye. We recommend starting with a thinner line and then adding fullness once you get the desired shape.
STEP 5: SMOKEY EYE BASE
Using a cream black shadow, apply the color all over the lid. This will give you a dark base for the smokey eye. Once the color is applied, take a fluffy brush and buff out the color.
STEP 6: ADD DEPTH
Taking a clean fluffy brush, buff a brown shadow in the crease. Make sure the shadow stays in a rounded shape.
STEP 7: ADD DIMENSION
Take a smokey shade of your choice and begin to press the color into the lid. This will darken the shadow, making the look more intense. Once the shadow is added, take your fluffy brush and buff the color into the crease. Next add metallic black to the center of the lid. Finish the eyes by adding black liner to your water line and buffing the color out. This will create a dimensional smokey eye.
STEP 8: CONCEAL AND LASH
Once your eyeshadow is complete, dust off any fall out and apply a concealer of your choice. This will brighten up the under eye allowing the eyes to pop. Optional: Finish up this smokey eye by applying false lashes.
STEP 9: BLUSH
Taking a blush brush and a plum rouge, apply the color to the apples of the cheek. Apply the blush in a circular motion, working from the apples upwards to the temples.
STEP 10: THE LIPS
Taking a dark lip pencil, draw a heart shape line directly above the lip line. Take the line and trace the lip line downwards, keeping away from the outer edge of the top lip line. This will create a more doll like, pouty lip. Line the bottom lip fully and fill in the lips with a dark liquid lip. Finish the look by cleaning up the lines.
