The sleek ponytail: Many have worn this classic hairstyle, from Kim Kardashian West to the Duchess of Sussex, Meghan Markle, to Bella Hadid. It is, to put it in ‘grammable terms, #hairspraygoals.

One of its key qualities is its versatility—it looks good with any outfit, day or night, casual or gala. Pair with statement earrings and you’re ready to go. It’s an all-seasons, customizable depending on your preference (high or low pony? A little volume, center, middle or no part, or completely sleek?) Even better, it’s easy to achieve, and about to become your go-to style.

If you’re going for a part, find your most flattering one here.

First, gather your supplies:
  • Comb or hard bristle-brush
  • A volumizing spray (like Catwalk’s Bodifying Spray)
  • Hairspray (like TIGI’s Maximum Hold)
  • 1 sturdy hair tie
  • Blow dryer
Then get to work:

First, brush through your hair until it is smooth, then prep it with a spritz of volumizing spray. To get the hair trained in the right direction, blow dry your hair up and back towards the crown area, or wherever you want the ponytail to sit, then secure tightly using a strong hair tie. Once the pony is up, spray the hairline and back with TIGI Maximum Hold Hairspray, then use a combination of the hairspray and comb to smooth out the flyaways along the hairline. For added polish, take a little piece of hair from the pony, wrap it around the base of the ponytail, securing it with a bobby pin and a touch of hair spray.
